Stay
Rooms within walking distance are few and fill fast: historic rooms over Creek Street and Stedman, a Tlingit-owned lodge on the hill, and bigger hotels with shuttles out along Tongass Avenue.
Downtown has only a handful of hotels, and on ship days they fill early. The historic choices sit on the water or the boardwalk: the Gilmore across from the berths, the New York Hotel over Thomas Basin and the Inn at Creek Street's rooms and suites. Cape Fox Lodge is on the hill above Creek Street. The bigger hotels out on Tongass Avenue run free shuttles to town, the state ferry or the airport ferry.
Cape Fox Lodge
Hilltop lodge above Creek Street, built and owned by Tlingit people of Saxman, with town and harbor views and a tram down to Creek Street.
Gilmore Hotel

New York Hotel
Eight restored rooms with antiques above the New York Cafe, facing the boats in Thomas Basin.
Inn at Creek Street
A group of restored buildings on and around Creek Street, from simple rooms to creekside suites and full-kitchen apartments.
The Landing Hotel
Large full-service hotel across from the state ferry terminal, with its own restaurants and a free shuttle into town.
Super 8 by Wyndham Ketchikan
No-frills waterfront chain motel north of downtown, with breakfast and free airport and ferry shuttles.
Alaska Travelers Accommodations

Walking map: the berths and downtown Ketchikan
The four city berths run along Front Street, numbered 1 to 4 from south to north. Creek Street, the Tongass Historical Museum and the salmon ladder are a short walk south and east, and the Totem Heritage Center is about 15 to 20 minutes on foot or a free summer shuttle ride.
